CINEX Strengthens Curaçao–Suriname Trade Ties at SEOGS 2025

CINEX

Willemstad, Curaçao, June 30, 2025 – The Curaçao Investment & Export Promotion Agency (CINEX) continues to solidify Curaçao’s standing as a strategic trade and investment hub in the region. In the month of June, CINEX led a dynamic trade mission to Suriname, actively participating in the Suriname Energy, Oil & Gas Summit (SEOGS) alongside prominent Curaçao-based companies such as Curoil, Amicorp, Navigator Insurance, and other key private-sector representatives. This high-level trade mission was aimed at strengthening regional investment ties and positioning Curaçao as a key gateway to the Caribbean.

With a strong presence at SEOGS, CINEX hosted an engaging and visually striking booth that functioned as a networking and matchmaking hub while spotlighting Curaçao’s growing energy sector. The booth prominently featured Curoil, symbolizing Curaçao’s competitive capabilities in oil and gas.
Throughout the summit, actively engaged with influential global and regional players such as Staatsolie, TotalEnergies, Petronas, and others—fostering opportunities to present Curaçao as a service hub for the energy industry and a trusted gateway to the Caribbean market.

CINEX also held strategic discussions with Afreximbank, a pan-African multilateral financial institution, which recently announced a US$5 billion Local Content Facility to support Suriname’s energy and economic development, including $1.6 billion in financing for Surinam’s national oil company, signaling a new era in Africa-Caribbean economic cooperation.

CINEX also celebrated a significant achievement for its partner, the Dutch Caribbean Securities Exchange (DCSX), which officially listed bonds for Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V.—valued at USD 468.7 million and EUR 43.5 million. This move aligns with the positioning of Curaçao as a financial gateway and marks a major step in regional capital market integration, underscoring Curaçao’s strength in facilitating cross-border investment flows. Staatsolie, Suriname’s state-owned oil company, continues to drive strategic energy development across the region.

To strengthen long-term collaboration, CINEX signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Suriname Investment and Trade Agency (SITA) and the Suriname Energy Chamber, formalizing joint efforts to promote trade and investments between both nations.

The mission also underscored the strength of the Bilateral Tax Treaty between the Dutch Kingdom (on behalf of Curaçao) and Suriname, which facilitates investment by avoiding double taxation and preventing tax evasion.

CINEX’s consistent engagement in Suriname has already yielded tangible results. Following a previous CINEX-led mission, Navigator Insurance Company successfully partnered with the Kersten Group to form Kersten Insurance Broker, tapping into Suriname’s rapidly growing insurance industry. This is a clear example of Curaçao exporting its services with impact.

Meanwhile, major Surinamese companies such as Assuria have expanded to Curaçao, and are now actively collaborating with local service providers, adding another layer to the two-way investment momentum.

Looking ahead, CINEX is exploring opportunities to participate in key regional platforms such as the AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum (ACTIF) in Grenada, where Africa-Caribbean partnerships continue to gain traction. CINEX is preparing investment-ready opportunities to ensure Curaçao remains visible and well-positioned for future engagement with global investors and financial institutions such as Afreximbank.

“Our mission is clear: to create meaningful bridges between Curaçao and international partners,” said Pedro A. Vega Orozco, Commercial Manager at CINEX. “Whether you’re an investor or service provider, CINEX is your tool to access new markets and foster sustainable growth.”
